Recording Philosophy
Recording presents challenges and opportunities in equal measure.
The microphone listens with an unforgiving ear and its close proximity can be an almost physical intrusion into the artists’ thoughts and emotions.
But given the right circumstances, recording also presents the opportunity to present your feelings and inner workings of musical observation to a large audience for a long time, and becomes a stamp of a certain moment in your musical existence.
The monastic calm of the recording process can also lead to a suspension of time and can create interpretations that are hard to duplicate in concert life. Working with the right team is of utmost importance, and I treasure the longstanding relationship with my Tonmeister Markus Heiland, piano technicians Georg Ammann and Stefan Knüpfer, and the fabulous acoustics of Salle De Musique in La Chaux-de-Fonds and the Mozartsaal at Wiener Konzerthaus.
